Job Description

The Opportunity:

The Yard Supervisor will be working day and night shifts at the plant. Please be advised that the successful candidate will provide coverage throughout the week for other employees.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Team and Leadership:

  • As the Operations Supervisor – Fibre Yard, you will have direct reports (Yard / Quality control positions). Responsibilities will include managing day to day tasks, vacation approvals, performance management and employee reviews.
  • You will supervise team members through the pellet manufacturing process, ensuring compliance to Safety & Environmental regulations, production, quality and operating policies and procedures
  • You will provide technical training to direct reports around mobile equipment, safety, confined space, hazard identification, fire safety & systems, and other OSHA required training
  • Provide annual performance feedback with all yard employees
  • Complete administrative requirements including overseeing shift payroll, overtime signoff, holiday request approval and any performance management required
  • Schedule all yard employees in a manner that provides continuous coverage and meets the needs of the employees
  • Liaise with other Drax management including HR, Maintenance, Operations Safety, Training and Senior Management.
  • Auditing scale quality process on a regular schedule.


  • Oversee day to day operations of the fiber scales, coordinate routine scales compliance calibration
  • Manage environmental compliance in the yard and address any issues immediately
  • Manage the incoming fiber mix, working with the operations team
  • Ensure quality is maintained and adjust mix as necessary with support from the operations teams
  • Manage log inventory (rotation, moisture management, storage)
  • Manage road maintenance, including coordinating grading, snow plowing and sanding
  • Work with the maintenance department to manage the mobile equipment fleet, communicate equipment issues as they arise and facilitate scheduling of repairs
  • Coordinate and schedule drone flights for fibre team for resource management planning and thermal imaging when required.
  • On shut down days, you will support the operations team by supervising WESP operational maintenance tasks. This includes staging for the job in advance, and ensuring adequate clean up afterwards
  • Support the operations superintendent by managing WESP chemical inventory
  • On occasion, may assist with Loader/Button Top Operation when needed.

Safety Leadership

  • Ensure safe day to day operations of the fiber yard, support the shift supervisors by hosting daily tailgate meetings and weekly toolbox talks for yard staff.
  • Complete safety observations, audit mobile equipment check sheets, and act on any safety deficiencies immediately.
  • Actively participates in safety programs including the use of our policy system for recording safety conversations, observations and training.
  • Leads by example, living Drax’s Values and focused on Safety.
  • Ensures employees are properly trained, competency is assessed and both are documented
  • Leads and maintains Drax’s high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the plant and the mobile equipment yard/mobile equipment, with the participation of Team members
  • Utilizes SDS for all chemicals used in production and ensures all employees are adequately trained on their storage, use, PPE requirements, and disposal.

Minimum Requirements (Experience, Education, Qualifications, Skills, Abilities)

  • 2-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude, mobile equipment experience, and familiarity with WorkSafe BC laws
  • Safety & Environmental experience is a must to lead safety for your team and in compliance with regulations.
  • First-Aid, CPR, AED, and Fire Brigade Training considered an asset
  • Fiber handling and log-yard management/operation is required.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with personal computers, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Demonstrates a hands-on attitude and attention to detail and a willingness to pitch in as needed.
  • Adaptable to changes in work schedule and tasks as required.
  • Is a team player with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in an industrial environment will be considered an asset.
  • Good mechanical aptitude would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s license is required to get to and from the site.

The Location: Meadowbank Plant

Our Meadowbank Plant is located ten minutes South of Hixon, British Columbia, Canada which is approximately 45 Kilometers from Quesnel, BC and 75 kilometers away from Prince George, BC. This position requires a daily commute by vehicle to and from the site. Willingness and the ability to drive to and from work each day will be a requirement of the role.
