Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Machining Foreman, Shop for our Fort McMurray, Alberta location.

Reports to:    General Foreman, Shop

Shift:    5 x 2, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per shift

Location:    Fort McMurray, Alberta

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Provide safety and production supervision and instruction to employees for troubleshooting, repair, maintenance of the equipment in the Mechanics and Welding shop
  • Assign and supervise work tasks to all Machinist personnel
  • Maintain all aspects of Komatsu standards, including but not limited to; Safety, Human Resources, Global quality standards and process
  • Maintain the Shop area to be a clean and organized environment
  • Complete the appropriate paperwork, forms, and reports
  • Maintain or exceed an OEM level of Quality on all work utilizing your available Q/A Team
  • Interpret blueprints
  • Manpower planning to ensure job priorities are managed efficiently
  • Manpower/Job planning to ensure OTD’s are achieved
  • Work with other trades leadership to plan upcoming work
  • Daily timekeeping requirements/checks (Kronos) to ensure work is being charged correctly by managing and tracking daily hours to stay ahead of the cost/issues on all jobs ongoing in the shop
  • Effective management of onsite trade related contractors
  • Provide information and knowledge when quoting on potential work
  • Help to find new ways or processes to complete the jobs in a more efficient manner and develop the process and procedures to maintain the improvements
  • Provide high quality service to internal and external customers
  • Mentoring and training of apprentices and Journeyman
  • Conduct employee evaluations and effectively manage disciplinary issues if required
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Journeyman Machinist Certification (Red Seal preferred)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-5 years’ experience of leading a team
  • Experience in a shop environment with an understanding of operation
  • Ability to interact with the customer and assist in whatever capacity required
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings with ease
  • Experience operating CNC equipment, programming capabilities would be an asset (CAD predominately used in shop environment)
  • Experience setting up and operating line boring equipment
  • Experience operating horizontal boring mill would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations, with a Health and Safety focus
  • Must be a self-motivator, and able to make good decisions based upon the best and most relevant information at hand.
  • Results-oriented team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet objectives/deliverables
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to mentor and lead a team of trades personnel
  • Computer skills (including SAP, Kronos, MS Word/ Excel) would be considered an asset
  • Valid Alberts Driver’s License (without any restrictions)
  • Must have no restrictions for access for any mine site
