The Carpenter position reports to the Facilities Supervisor and is responsible for providing professional, quality general maintenance work in an industrial setting, providing expedient customer service and satisfaction. This involves working on a wide variety of tasks, requiring a broad spectrum of skill sets.


  • Provides general maintenance and cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and renovations (i.e. Replaces light bulbs, fixes leaky pipes, cleans drains, tests wiring)
  • Follows all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Strives to continually improve through specific development plans
  • Accepts direction from the Facilities Supervisor
  • Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisors in order to determine work requirements
  • Assembles prefabricated furniture
  • Custom builds new furniture and cabinets
  • Designs and builds intricate storage and shipping crates, makes templates, and draws blueprints
  • Designs and makes jigs to allow easy mass production of frequently required wooden products on the hangar floor
  • Maintains air compressors, troubleshoot and remedy problems before specialists are required
  • Works with various off-site contractors on jobs
  • Installs flooring and lays new tile
  • Repairs outdoor structures and furniture damaged by weather, age, or accident
  • Cleans building exterior gutters
  • Assists in snow removal
  • Replaces air and/or heating filters or schedules repairs
  • Monitors inventory, ordering new supplies as needed and maintaining a log of supplies used and purchased
  • Produces a satisfactory result for the client and working to the standards that they expect


  • 5 year’s experience as a handyman
  • Experience working in dangerous or hazardous environments such as working on heights, using ladders, and working around equipment
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Courses or certifications from trade school(s)
  • Apprenticeship resume
  • Skilled in carpentry work and in designing and blueprints for new products
  • Ability to read drawings and blueprints and interpret specifications
  • Capable of industrial-scale jobs, such as office buildings
  • Capable of working with potentially hazardous substances and application of associated measures
  • Knowledge of safe work operating procedures
  • Ability to understand and apply industry standards for installation, repairs, and safety
  • Ability to operate power tools and equipment
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Willing to take initiative
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-motivated
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with people tactfully
