OVERVIEW

We are seeking an Electrician, who will be based on our vessel, the FRPD 309, a trailing suction hopper dredger that is currently dredging in the Fraser River.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrician reports to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for the duties as outlined below. Trained and familiarized Electricians are authorized to work independently during their watch.

The duties of the Electrician include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot, install and repair wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical and electronic systems on board FRPD vessels (and marine facilities, if required).
  • Perform maintenance and repair of ship supply power generators, shaft generators, propulsion system, steering, hydraulics, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits, PLC and MSA dredging system, general dredging electrical system, navigation system and bridge equipment, deck machinery, galley electrical installation, refrigeration and air conditioning.
  • Install conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and thread wires through conduit to terminals; for example, connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels following Class
  • Connect power-supply circuits to radio, radar, draft sensors, fire control, and other electrical and electronic
  • Test electrical characteristics; for example, voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation
  • Construct and install instrument panels, using hand tools, rulers, dividers, and power drills, following
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and effect required maintenance, repairs, or
  • Conduct insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effect repairs or replacements as required; provide a detailed
  • Participate in the installation and/or alteration to electrical systems on board FRPD dredging vessels; update ship’s electrical drawings.
  • Maintain electrical system maintenance histories noting date, and extent of repairs and/or alterations, including measuring tools calibration
  • Keep maintenance records up to date in COGZ vessel’s maintenance

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Red Seal Industrial Electrician
  • Marine Medical Certificate, Transport Canada
  • Certificate of Proficiency in STCW Basic Safety
  • Marine Basic First Aid

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 12-hour days with overtime as required
  • Unionized position with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild
