Our Quesnel River Pulp (QRP) Division is seeking individuals with strong technical, leadership, planning, organization and has an opportunity for an:


Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this position is responsible for scheduling, and supervising the execution of electrical and instrumentation (E&I) maintenance work. It requires a high level of technical knowledge and a basic understanding of the mechanical pulping process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise a highly skilled Electrical/ Instrumentation crew
  • Ensure that electrical activities comply with all legislated regulations and corporate policies
  • Ensure compliance with West Fraser electrical codes of practice and adherence to safety regulations
  • Develop and review safe standard operating procedures for repairing electrical equipment
  • Complete maintenance related jobs according to the highest standards of safety, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provide a safe work environment for all employees
  • Promote good relations and communication between E/I maintenance and production coordinator
  • Promote good mill morale, housekeeping, and safe working conditions
  • Work closely with trades personnel in Creating detailed job plans
  • Managing shift coverage and vacation allocation
  • Ensure drawings and files are kept updated after modifications
  • Assist E/I Planner with entering timesheets
  • Assist in Planning & scheduling several weeks in advance for on the run and shutdown activities for plant maintenance
  • Managing the E/I maintenance backlog
  • Managing E/I maintenance costs
  • Assist in creating and implementing preventative maintenance programs
  • Manage and comply with the weekly schedule with operations and the execution team
  • Assist in managing the spare motor database

The successful candidate must have:

  • A valid red seal trades certificate or Bachelors in Applied Science/Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in either a pulp mill or heavy industrial setting is preferred
  • Strong leadership, planning, budgeting and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of computer software and applications, with a preference given to a candidate with Maximo, MS Excel and Word
  • Good organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills
  • The desire to progress, learn, grow and succeed
  • The candidate must possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both hourly and management
  • An FSR A designation would be an asset
