Vancouver Buildings & Facilities Division

As part of the Engineering, Design, and Project Management Division, the Vancouver Building & Facilities group specializes in providing mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering solutions for all building types ranging from small commercial buildings, complex institutional buildings such as hospitals, universities, and laboratories, and transportation infrastructure.

SNC-Lavalin is currently recruiting for the position of Electrical Engineer.

This position is based out of our Vancouver Building & Facilities office.

Some of your responsibilities:

  • Meeting with owners/architects to outline the scope of building projects
  • Reviewing the status of existing buildings prior to project design, performing site take offs
  • Developing and managing design, technical specifications, and other deliverables for building systems on construction projects
  • Assisting others in the office with several projects – a knowledge sharing atmosphere
  • Preparing drawings and construction documents
  • Monitor and maintain project schedules for mechanical engineering design deliverables
  • Coordinating deliverables, submissions, and system requirements with the mechanical department, architects, owners, contractors, and relevant authorities
  • Conducting site visits and inspections to review progress of construction
  • Strong client focus including Business Development and responding to RFPs
  • Develop feasibility studies and technical reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Electrical Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with EGBC.
  • 5-10 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of directly related industry experience designing electrical systems (i.e. power distribution, lighting, life safety systems and security systems) in healthcare, commercial, institutional, transportation, or public sector buildings.
  • Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software
  • Strong written and verbal skills (English language)
  • Ability to work semi-independently with only a moderate amount of input/supervision

The ideal candidate will have the following traits, capabilities, or experience:

  • Self motivated individual with a passion for electrical engineering and building technologies
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team of electrical engineering technologists and drafters
  • Demonstrated effort of a strong client focus including Business Development and responding to RFPs.
  • Familiarity/competency with the LEED® green building rating system
  • Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software
  • Proficient with lighting modelling or power load analysis software.
  • Proficient with other CAD software used in the construction industry such as Bentley MicroStation, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of codes, standards, construction means and methods related to mechanical engineering to ensure designs are optimized for construction practices
  • A basic understanding of project management principles and the ability to manage your work to meet a given budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with integrated teams of consultants and contractors.
  • An understanding of the work produced by other disciplines in the industry including architectural, mechanical, civil, and structural consultants
  • The willingness to occasionally travel within and outside of BC to project sites or to meet with remote design and construction teams.
